Love Art, Love Respect: Art Competition

Love Respect is hosting an art competition for all young people aged 14-25 years old. We are encouraging participants to submit piece inspired by what a healthy relationship means to them. The winning entry will receive £100 Gift voucher and have their artwork used in our next round-of advertisement for our Website LoveRespect.org.uk.

Love Respect is an awesome online space where teens and young adults (ages 14-25) can learn all about unhealthy relationships, spotting warning signs, and breaking free from gender stereotypes. Shockingly, recent data from March 2022 showed that a lot more young adults aged 20 to 24 (around 10.2%) experienced domestic abuse compared to older age groups like those 55 and up. It’s a tough reality, but this site is here to help equip young folks with the knowledge they need to stop abuse before it happens. Let’s break the cycle together!

Winner

Christina, 18

I wanted to represent a healthy relationship, through a colourful visual of two souls bonding, while also in cooperating flowers to show how a healthy relationship is always evolving and growing. I also included some key words in there that I think are key factors to a thriving relationship. I wanted the piece to be a bit messy as I think love always is, but it’s also something beautiful.

Runner Up (18-25)

Lily, 18

I painted this in acrylics. I wanted to show a close, loving relationship in a simplified and universal way that anyone could relate to. I think the key things that I tried to capture were a sense of warmth and softness.

Runner Up (14-17)

Sanshali , 17

This cubism-inspired art piece portrays a healthy relationship through the couple’s mutual support, harmonious differences, resilience amidst complexity, and shared journey through life’s experiences. Additionally, the colourful background represents happiness.

Judge’s Favourites

Skanda, 16

‘The art style is unique and positive, and it’s got a lovely meaning behind it’

Fia, 16

‘I love the magical celestial presence the piece gives off. When you look more closely the connection seems very powerful between the two figures. I love the light and dark contrasts and feel a strong affinity to this piece.’

Lily, 18

‘I think this piece had the clearest vision and execution and followed the brief the best. It’s also just really gorgeous to look at.‘

Christina, 18

‘I really like the dichotomy between the organic and the contrived here, the couple feels all at once as if they are growing together and flourishing, but the line drawing and subtle pieces of writing make it clear they are drawing and writing their own destiny. The power dynamics feel really balanced and a sense of love shines through.’
